Detailed guide

1

Keep repair separate from backup

Data Tools repair setup/data. Backup and Restore recovers data. They should not be confused.

2

Use starter defaults carefully

Add Missing Defaults should not remove user-created data. Reset Starter Defaults should not load demo transactions.

3

Keep demo local

Demo data is for learning on one device. It should be clearly marked local-only and removable.

4

Respect Danger Zone

Clear All Data needs multiple warnings and should not be used to fix small display issues.

Before you finish, check this

  • Action name clearly says what will happen.
  • Demo is local-only.
  • User-created data is not removed by default restore.
  • Clear All Data has strong confirmation.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using factory reset to load demo data.
  • Syncing demo data to another device.
  • Putting reset tools under everyday Sync & Files.
  • Removing user-edited records as demo.
